gos·pel pā·tron (noun)
a person who comes alongside and resources others to help them advance the gospel ministry of Jesus.
In his book, Gospel Patrons, John Rinehart tells the stories of people, behind the scenes, who made the ministry of men like William Tyndale, George Whitefield, and John Newton possible – they were Gospel Patrons.
As Jesus travelled throughout Galilee, we are told in Luke 8 that his disciples accompanied him, as well as “some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means” – they were Gospel Patrons.
Has God blessed you with earthly resources in order to generously support and partner with Kingdom ministry? You may be a Gospel Patron.
Tracy and Debra Weaver are engaged in a ministry movement that is the culmination of all that God has been working in their lives for over 35 years of Christian service. As a pastor, Tracy loved declaring God’s truth and strengthening the local church. As a non-profit ministry leaders, they developed a passion for deepening the spiritual life of believers through the message of the Risen Life of Jesus, and uniting God’s people in the Fellowship of the Risen. Now, through City Church Unite, they are leading a movement with the vision of advancing Christ’s Kingdom and transforming communities by nurturing the spiritual vitality and visible unity of the Church of the City.
Aligning Our Priorities With Christ’s Prayer
In John 17 Jesus prayed to the Father that his followers would be perfectly one, so “that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me” (v. 23). The prayer of our King is for the visible unity of his Church. It is our belief that God is initiating a movement of recapturing the fundamental unity of the Body of Christ for the advancement of the Gospel.
The Church is in need of a spiritual awakening. Local churches frequently minister within blocks of one another with a minimal sense of love, honor or partnership. City Church Unite desires to be used of God as a catalyst for building relationships of trust among pastoral leaders and calling the Church of the City to rise up, become aware of its God designed identity, and engage the task of city transformation “standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel” (Phil. 1:27).
Simply stated, the mission of City Church Unite is to unite the Church to transform the city. By God’s grace CCU, along with many partner ministries, will be used as a catalyst for helping pastors and churches pursue the unity of the Body of Christ:
- by building relationships of trust and casting vision
- by mobilizing believers in their city to partner in prayer
- by providing communities with a strategy for collaborative service
- by mobilizing the collective Church of the city to embrace the goal of saturating their community with the gospel of Jesus.
City Church Unite is in need of Gospel Patrons to stand with us in this Church awakening movement. If the Spirit of Christ within you is stirred by this vision, we invite you to prayerfully consider becoming a Gospel Patron of City Church Unite.
